Karl Wohlwend, Michael Yonchak and Lisa Spencer had never performed professional flamenco until they met Griset Damas-Roche who came to Columbus in January 2014 and continued the path laid out by Cindy Stamps, a flamenco woman who passed away in 2013. Lisa had been one of the flamenco dance promoters In Columbus and she is also a pianist. Karl and Michael are Associated Professors at Otterbein University and musicians for very qualified projects. All They started playing flamenco with Griset in late 2015 and together they have made numerous presentations at Schools, Libraries, Universities and private celebrations, trying to promote this passionate art of Spanish origin in Ohio.
Griset Damas Roche was born in Havana, Cuba and studied Ballet from the 6 to 18 years old, then she entered by audition to the Spanish Ballet of Havana and achieved the degree of Soloist. In 1998 She moved to Colombia where developed a prolix career and managed to leave a mark as Flamenco dancer and teacher. In January 2014, life brought her to Columbus, OH and quickly became part of the flamenco movement that existed in this city, and has managed to give a boost to Flamenco with the creation of UWILLDANCE, which is also the only Flamenco Studio in the State of Ohio.
